Losing Streak

In the first ten years with my license, I did not have one accident. In the two years I have lived in Massachusetts, specifically in the last year, I have had two.
The death of Megan the Honda Civic is already documented, and now I fear that Calliope the Mazda 3 and I have hit a [...]

Scalped!

At first I was all excited about Live Nation… someone was competing with Ticketmaster! This had to be a good thing! There was no way it could go horribly wrong!
Then I tried to buy some tickets to see Los Campesinos in February. $7.00 surcharge on $14.00 tickets.

Career Oppurtunities (the ones that never knock)

One day, thought not any time soon, and probably not before they go big or the next big industry shift happens, I want to work for a web hosting company like The Engine Yard, Media Temple or Linode; These are web hosting companies that get it.
Different from the “extremely questionable” web host I once worked [...]

Apache Admin Notes: Raw Performance Numbers

In late December I started looking at alternative web servers, having hit a point where I actually asked aloud (though to no one in particular) why I still use Apache for any http or php needs that may arise.
I sat down, installed nginx (nginx 0.6.33) from the EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) repositories and [...]

About

I am a surly and opinionated web infrastructure administrator who moved to Massachusetts to work for a mid-sized engineering software company. It was a strategic decision.

I’m a strategic kind of guy. See?
Before moving to Massachusetts I lived in Albany, NY. By lived, I mean “lived my whole life there”.
My principle interests are technology, specifically web [...]
